2010 Annual On-Property Auction

Stud Principals, David and Karen Ridgway, on Wednesday 11th of August, 2010 sold 99 out of 100 rams averaged $1720 to a top of $8,000, selling to Classings Limited.
Bill Walker, Classings Ltd., said the ram appealed because of its great structure. “I liked its freeness of skin and whiteness combined with its good figures” He said “It is a well bred Sire with great depth”.
Typically spirited active buying was seen throughout the Auction with Merino breeders travelling from vast areas of three states South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. The general consensus of the large crowd present was the outstanding quality and evenness with this years’ line-up.
Long time Stud Client, Peter Mosey from Robertstown, who bought the Ridgway Advance top priced ram at the Classing Classic last year “ Billy 09’, travelled to Bordertown Wednesday and secured the second priced ram, lot 7 for $6800. The long stapled, upstanding ram was Sired by Ridgway Advance 199, carrying a fleece measuring 19.5 micron, 3.0 standard deviation with a comfort factor of 99.7 percent.
The first Spring Drop, demonstrated tremendous growth with a fleece of 18.4 micron was offered at lot 14 and after an intense bidding dual was knocked down to Rodney Harris operating for the Brimanna Stud for $5,000. ‘He is very pure with bright white sirey wool and a magnificent rear end” Mr Harris said.
The spirited bidding carried over to the ecoshelter selling for an average of $622.
David Ridgway was extremely pleased with the many regular and new clients supportive of the stud’s animals. David explained “We are producing the Dual Purpose Merino, long meaty bodies, and elite fibre with good fertility tackling what industry demands now and our clients are seeing the rewards.”
David and Karen Ridgway with young son Devon have developed a genetic line of sheep in large numbers which was illustrated with the tremendous sale of young rams at their on-property ram sale, 35 km North of Bordertown, South Australia.
